Dalton Dental Office Renovation: From Bank to Modern Clinic

The Situation
A former banking facility in Dalton, Georgia needed to become a fully operational, multi-room dental clinic. This Dalton dental office renovation required far more than rearranging an existing commercial interior. The building’s vault, safe, ATM, drive-thru components, electrical distribution, mechanical layout, plumbing, and slab were incompatible with the infrastructure required for contemporary dental care.
JBrennon was responsible for transforming the building from its previous financial-services use into Beautiful Smiles Dentistry, coordinating the architectural build-out, clinical utilities, building systems, finishes, exterior improvements, and owner-furnished dental equipment.
The Challenge
The bank’s existing vault and modular safe components created an immediate demolition and material-handling challenge. The large vault door required specialized rigging and controlled removal before the surrounding area could be opened for the new clinical layout.
Below the finished floor, dental treatment rooms required systems that had never existed in the building. The concrete slab had to be saw-cut and trenched for sanitary piping, compressed air, vacuum, medical-gas rough-ins, electrical conduit, and communication raceways. Each underground connection had to align with the treatment-room layout and owner-furnished dental equipment before the trenches could be doweled, protected against moisture, and poured back.
Imaging areas required lead-lined construction. The existing HVAC system needed extensive redistribution and field modifications to serve the new room arrangement. Exterior work also expanded to include parking-lot trenching, a reconstructed entrance, new doors, localized exterior wall repairs, signage, and additional lighting.
How We Worked
JBrennon began by removing the banking infrastructure and clearing the building for reconstruction. Demolition included the vault and safe components, ATM and drive-thru elements, partitions, ceilings, flooring, fixtures, casework, windows, lighting, electrical devices, plumbing components, and portions of the existing HVAC distribution.
After the vault door was rigged out, the slab was saw-cut and trenched for the new dental systems. JBrennon installed underground sanitary waste and vent piping, domestic hot- and cold-water distribution, filtered-water provisions, compressed-air piping, vacuum piping, medical-gas rough-ins, and under-slab pathways for power and communications. Trenches were then prepared, doweled, moisture-protected, and poured back to restore the floor.
The new interior included a waiting area, reception and checkout functions, business and consultation rooms, an imaging alcove, sterilization center, treatment rooms, private offices, work areas, an IT room, staff-support spaces, corridors, and restrooms. Metal framing, blocking, gypsum board, fur-downs, and acoustical ceilings established the new layout. Lead-lined drywall was installed at designated radiographic areas.
JBrennon furnished and installed the clinic’s millwork and finish-carpentry package, including clinical cabinetry, quartz countertops, breakroom improvements, open shelving, base cabinets, workstation framing, accessory backing, and field-adjusted cabinet configurations. Interior finishes included porcelain tile, ceramic wainscot, porcelain base, carpet tile, luxury vinyl tile, vinyl composition tile, rubber base, painting, and stained finishes.
Mechanical work reconnected the existing rooftop unit to a new air-distribution system. Fabricated ductwork, flexible connections, grilles, registers, diffusers, exhaust fans, thermostatic controls, and duct insulation were installed throughout the clinic. Field conditions required changes to the air-distribution and return-air arrangement, including roof cores, roof patching, additional mechanical components, and relocation of the existing split system to serve the IT room.
The electrical build-out included three 200-amp panels, interior and exterior lighting, hospital-grade devices in treatment rooms, under-slab conduit, data and communication stub-ups, HVAC power, and reconnection of exterior lighting. Additional installations included dedicated sterilization-equipment circuits, future power and IT provisions, consultation-room projector power, breakroom television power, owner-provided decorative fixtures, and added entry lighting.
Exterior improvements included parking-lot saw-cutting and utility relocation, concrete and asphalt patching, masonry and EIFS repairs, surface preparation and painting, signage, specialty lighting, and reconstruction of an exterior opening with new double doors, frames, hardware, and surrounding finish restoration.
The Outcome
JBrennon transformed the former bank into a completed dental clinic with the clinical infrastructure, building systems, specialized construction, and finished spaces required for operation.
